Abstract
Archaeological processes and methodologies such as the surveying of sites, excavation of material evidence, classification of artefacts and the interpretation, assemblage and display of retrieved materials are at the core of my practice. This thesis is in essence an integral part of the artwork presented as part of my Master of Fine Arts (Research) degree and for this reason articulates its formal and conceptual concerns by employing the model of an archaeological report The aim of the excavation of 16 sites from different locations around Sydney, Australia, was to retrieve data useful in reconstructing the past as the basis for a series of contemporary art works.
