Abstract
This report analyses the present knowledge of fluvial hydraulics and
geomorphology with a view of applying it to the rational planning and
design of river improvement and flood mitigation works. After a general
description of the Hunter Valley the Lower Hunter flood plain is examined
in detail. Methods of studying river regime are discussed and
then applied to the Hunter River. The possibility of applying flood
routing techniques to the tidal section of the river is examined and
further investigations necessary for this are outlined.
