Abstract
This project conducts a series of investigations into the act of painting through zones characterized by the indefinite, the ordinary, the banal and the provisional, by the use of the photograph as source material, and includes other self-canceling strategies and acts of negation within the painting process. The research demonstrates how my investigation revolves around a state of conformity and compliance in relation to the creative act, characterized by a certain paralysis in the painter’s relationship with Art History, and the respective strategies to overcome this phenomenon. As such this investigation explores a way of working that is less defined by a particular strategy and more open to a playful engagement with the provisional, for painting’s continuity.
