Abstract
A strain sensor constructed from a fibre laser and a polymer optical fibre Bragg grating is reported. It can measure a strain as large as 1.9% with a strain sensitivity 1.46 pm/ue. In spite of the relatively small output power of around -10 dBm from the laser, this setup gives a good signal to noise ratio greater than 50dB.
