dc.description.abstract Over the summer period December 1997 - January 1998, a program of field work was undertaken as part of a research project to develop numerical models of the marine waters into which the wastewaters from the Casey Station, Antarctica, are discharged. Field data collected include wind speed and direction, current speed and direction, water level, barometric pressure, air temperature and dew point. The data presented in this report cover the same time period and were analysed using spectral analysis, principal component analysis as well as basic statistical analysis. The main results show that the currents are dominated by the winds in the more exposed sea areas, and tidal currents are insignificant, and the mean water level is inversely related to the barometric pressure. Estimates of the horizontal eddy viscosity obtained from drogue tracking during fine weather were about 0.05 sqm/s for wind speed less than 1m/s to about 0.3 sqm/s for wind speeds between 1 m/s and 5 m/s. en_US
