Abstract
Culvert head walls and aprons complying with the Department of Main Roads Standard A139 are associated with excessive erosion blow the outlet. A concrete structure was developed which controlled the scour but was too ocstly. Model tests extending the work of P. Moore of the Department of Public Works with loosely bound aprons of broken rock Tests showed this structure was suitable for controlling scour and was less expensive than previous structures.
