dc.description.abstract | Rotavirus infections are responsible for 800,000 deaths per year from diarrhea in developing countries and are a major cause of morbidity and sometimes mortality in developed countries.1–3 Enteric Gram-negative rod (EGNR) bacteremia has been described as a possible complication of acute gastroenteritis; however, there are very few reports of EGNR bacteremia as a complication of rotavirus-associated acute diarrhea. Adler et al 4 reported 3 patients with EGNR bacteremia and Nadya et al 5 reported a single case of septic shock associated with EGNR bacteremia. In this report, we describe a child with fatal Klebsiella oxytoca septicemia complicating rotavirus-associated acute diarrhea. | en_US |
