Abstract
Present practices for the prevention of siltation in rural storages are reviewed in this report and compared with overseas practices. An anlysis of the effectivesness of conventional silt tanks is provided based on the approximate theories for settling of granular solids in sedimentation basins. A limited gtoup of case studies was made in an endeavour to highlight significant factors for the control and prevention of siltation in rural storages as topics for further research.
