dc.description.abstract On the basis of an ethnographic study of 15 Chinese urban families, this chapter attempts to examine two research questions regarding the relationship between Chinese viewers and television. The two questions are: 1. What are the subjects' reactions like to their positioning by the television set and official Chinese televisions? 2. For those who have problems accepting the position imposed on them, how do we escape it and how do they relate to television in a way that empowers them? en_US
