dc.description.abstract This paper reviews the digital library services that have developed over recent time and the role and function of the digital librarian. It considers these along with the development of institutional repositories and examines the opportunities for the development and expansion of services to the library community. The requirements of the repository and how these align with the open access scholarly communication objectives of early developers of repositories and how they fit within the hybrid library are also considered. The role the digital librarian plays in support of institutional repositories is examined to help identify the organisational change required by the library to support the services the digital librarian provides. en_US
