Abstract
A commercial process for the production of salt by solar evaporation through evaporating ponds to reduce seawater to a brine of specific gravity approx 1.25. It is then drawn off for concentrating on a black heat absorbing surface where crystals are garnered from the mother liquor. Preliminary experiments established principles for design and operation of evaporating ponds and for protective and removal techniques for countering rainfall precipitation.
