Abstract
This collection, the second of two volumes to be published based on the conference proceedings, includes one plenary and eleven contributed papers. Ito Peng in her Plenary Paper, discusses social welfare in Japan, reminding us of the increasing importance of Asian countries for Australia and the need for a social policy perspective to be part of Australia's increasing engagement in the region. This theme is taken up in one of the contributed papers, while others comment on the effects of increasing globalisation on Australian policies and welfare. Other contributors discuss more specific issues, all of which have been affected by the 'remapping of boundaries' taking place around us.
