unsw.relation.projectDesc In this project we will tackle the challenge of improving quantum communications by considering the case when the communications are made through space. In the vacuum of space, light based quantum information can be preserved over long distance transmission in a noise-reduced environment. This is a theoretical project in which we will build upon previous works to analyze the potential of existing applications and develop novel long-range quantum protocols. We will scrutinize existing applications including quantum random number generators for secret key generation and quantum key distribution for cryptographic applications. We will develop the theory for these applications and we will use numerical simulations to confirm the results. en_US
